Quality Plywood for China

WITH Raute

What is the future
scope of plywood industry in China?

Background

China is the world's
largest plywood producer, yet their plywood production is based on highly
manual and simple technology. This leads to low-quality plywood. On the other
hand, export markets, occupational safety and imports of high-quality
plywood continuously seem to demand more modern manufacturing processes. How
does this effect the plywood industry in China?

Problem

Quality vs.
Cost-Efficiency. Old generation vs. New generation. The value chain in Chinese
plywood production is currently separated into veneer production and plywood
production, which produces inexpensive but low-quality plywood products to the
market. However, as the middle-class grows, markets demand higher quality and
more sustainable products.

There are signals that
suggest the change in Chinese plywood production. What are the drivers that
give pace to this change? How do Chinese financial institutions, forest owners
and other stakeholders, plywood manufacturers and society in general see this change
and what kind of socio-economic impact it might have? How does China’s next
generation see sustainability and ecological growth as part of the industry?
In this case, there will be 2 intensive weekend bootcamps during the project: from March 22nd to 24th & from May 3rd to May 5th. Please save the dates already when applying.
